Upfront inside the restaurant’s dining hall, Oliver waited patiently for the manager. It was a busy restaurant, and he was impressed by how they were getting customers in and out. Wait time for food? Less than eight minutes was his estimate. Not bad at all. But he would have expected nothing less from a restaurant managed by Abigail.

Abigail, he thought as he sat there like an average joe regular customer. It was the craziest thing. She disappeared on him before he could even finish the meeting he was having in his home office and then spend time with her. She told Alfred he had life “bent” if he thought she was down like that. Then, according to Alfred, she told him what he could do with that bathrobe and left. “I had assumed her to be just like all the others,” he told Oliver. “But she most decidedly is not.”

Those words haunted Oliver. She most decidedly is not. She was nothing like all the others and even Alfred could see it too. Oliver had suspected it all along, but he didn’t trust his judgement in matters of the heart. But he did know this for sure: she saw what being with him could mean for her financially, and she still didn’t take the bait. She was at his condo. He had invited her into his home. And she still didn’t take the bait! That floored him. That caught him so unawares that he didn’t know what to make of it. And although he had to spend the last two months overseas shoring-up his other investments and meeting with nervous stockholders and thwarting several different attempts on some of his lesser-known businesses by his always-conniving brother, he couldn’t get Abby out of his mind even then. He couldn’t wait to get back to the States to see her again.

Even after the waitress told him that she was too busy to see anybody, he still waited. He knew closing time was soon enough and if he had to wait that entire two hours, he was going to wait. He didn’t fly all the way to South Carolina for his health. He was there to see Abby. And he was going to see her even if it took all night.

It took until closing time. He was outside in his rented SUV by then. Blake was seated behind the wheel watching the side exit door while Oliver was on the phone with his office. When Blake saw different employees come out of that side door, he got out of the SUV. When he saw Abby finally come out and lock up the place, he called out to her.

“Miss Langston? Miss Langston!”

Abby looked in his direction when she heard her name. When she saw who it was, she was puzzled. Why on earth would Oliver’s driver be in Potts? Too curious, she walked up front where he was standing. “Yes?”

“The boss is here to see you.”

Abby looked beyond Blake and saw Oliver seated on the backseat of an SUV parked in front of the restaurant.
